Everyone has heard of the upcoming U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations posed to hit in 2018. In short, these regulations will require anyone manufacturing vape products to go through a million dollar “approval” process that is sure to do everything short of grinding the vape industry to a halt.
This is not something that we have to simply accept. While the UK has all but embraced the culture of vaping and encourages the community, U.S. tobacco companies are pushing for these regulations and outright prohibition. There are steps we can take to fight this evil.
The FDA’s proposed e-cigarette regulations will remove 99.9% of vapor products from the market. Help fight the tobacco companies so we don’t all have to go back to Newport’s. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the FDA claimed Pall Mall’s were healthier than water.
– Join CASAA (Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association)
Formed in 2009, CASAA is one the largest advocacy groups for vaping in the U.S. and is constantly trying to raise awareness to protect our right to vape. With over 120,000 members it is constantly expanding to help fight these unjust and capitalistically oppressive laws. Joining is a big step in the right direction to help amend these injustices.
Feel free to donate if you are hyped to make a difference. You can join CASAA here.
– Support H.R.2058
As it currently stands, the new regulations will only allow products that date back to 2007 to be grandfathered into the new “deeming regulations”. This bill would push that date back to where all existing vaping products would be grandfathered into the new law. This would greatly benefit many of the current vaping companies. CASAA has a pre-written form that you can fill out to help pass this bill. It would only take a few moments to fill out and helps everyone in the end. You can find a full summary of the bill here.
– Call Obama
Feel free to contact President Obama and ask the FDA to re-work these outrageous regulations. Be sure to mention how we, as grown adults, should be able to make our own decision as to how we quit smoking. If they don’t know how harmful the effects of vaping are, how should they be able to regulate it as tobacco?
– Spread the Word
Tell your neighbors, friends, and family what is going on and how dire it is. The Royal College of Physicians released a 200-page report (here) detailing the safety of vaping versus traditional smoking. Explain to them that there are tobacco companies that are pushing regulations like this because of how much money they have lost to the vape community. How could anyone reasonably think that vaping is the same as smoking a cigarette?
– Support your Local Vape Shop
We would not be anywhere without the local vendors that have supported this lifestyle since the beginning. Make sure to back your local vape shop that supports the scene. Don’t just buy terrible DIY juices from the guys that are just trying to make a quick buck. The shops that are actively working against this oppression are the ones that deserve our money and it is our choice who to give it to.. lets make it count.
